The best California Malbec I've had was from Selby, but I bought that when I was in Sonoma, and I don't know how widely distributed it is.Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11196146440395316085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31809593.post-1154961531718545132006-08-07T10:38:00.000-04:002006-08-07T10:38:00.000-04:002006-08-07T10:38:00.000-04:00Mike, Looks like I am your first DBR-refered reade...Mike,

Looks like I am your first DBR-refered reader. Looks like a very interesting blog. I wanted to add about the Altos Malbec and say that Malbecs have been my favorite red since 2000 when I had the opportunity to go to Argentina. They weren't that common here back then, and it ha been great to see them trickle in. My favorite (Luigi Bosca) has yet to show up, but it excites me to see so many Argentine malbecs here.

The key element in a malbec to me is the peppery/berry taste. My guess is that this comes from the region in Argentina, but I have heard of a good California malbec (the name escapes me) - have you heard anything about that?JOEhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03638577260589826420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31809593.post-1154801456504611922006-08-05T14:10:00.000-04:002006-08-05T14:10:00.000-04:002006-08-05T14:10:00.000-04:00Dear The Naked Vine,Thank you for bringing us thes...Dear The Naked Vine,

Thank you for bringing us these wines... and bringing them to us with "simple terms" and bits of humor.

We are running out immediately for some Castle Rock pinot noir, as you know how we love them cherries.

Your faithful back alley neighborsCMPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11565408765301955345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31809593.post-1154801205089114522006-08-05T14:06:00.000-04:002006-08-05T14:06:00.000-04:002006-08-05T14:06:00.000-04:00Dear The Naked Vine,We thank you for bringing us t...Dear The Naked Vine,

We thank you for bringing us these wines... and for bringing them to us by using "simple terms" and a bit of humor.

We're running out immediately for some Castle Rock pinot noir - you know how we love them cherries!

Cheers!
Your faithful students/neighborsCMPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11565408765301955345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31809593.post-1154729159185372252006-08-04T18:05:00.000-04:002006-08-04T18:05:00.000-04:002006-08-04T18:05:00.000-04:00The recommendations you gave me at Liquor Direct w...The recommendations you gave me at Liquor Direct were very good. I gave my brother, who has very expensive taste in wines, a bottle of the Casa de Sol (the one from Santa Cruz) which he already knew and liked. Here's one for you: Los Vascos. I can get it at Spec's in Houston for $9.DrPumahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00843316912772530691noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31809593.post-1154625587940167282006-08-03T13:19:00.000-04:002006-08-03T13:19:00.000-04:002006-08-03T13:19:00.000-04:00Speaking of Argentina...That wine we had a couple ...Speaking of Argentina...

That wine we had a couple of months back, Root, was the best twelve dollar cab I've ever tasted.
