As we discussed, this is a toug...Nice article Mike. As we discussed, this is a tough nut to crack with any breadth while still doing it cost effectively. The combination of terroir, malo, oak, toast, and sur lie ageing give the Chardonnay wine maker a huge palette of tools to use in creating whatever taste profile they're looking for. <br /><br />I've found some good examples in California of Malo + French oak, No Malo + French oak, and No Malo + American oak, and I've put enough time into at this point that I may have to do the tasting myself. Wanna join me? <br /><br />PS - I may have words for the next person who tells me they don't like Chardonnay because of how frequently it's abused by oak. The Chardonnay is the victim in this scenario, not the assailant.
